Get Involved: Call for Volunteers!

Get Involved: Call for Volunteers!

Would you like to do something worthwhile with your spare time? Would you like to be more involved with an organisation that helps support LGBTQQI youth and students? If you would like to donate your time and abilities to help create a more unified community and safe spaces for youth, then look no further.

We Are is looking for enthusiastic, motivated people to form part of our team. We will be setting up two Sub-Committees to assist the Executive Board during the current scholastic year; one for Media and Events and another for Education and Awareness.

Do you have a flair for designing and/or writing? Are you good at coming up with innovative ideas for new events? Have good organisational skills? Then our Media and Events Sub-Committee is the one for you. Successful applicants will be responsible for assisting our Community Officer and PRO with the creation, organisation and running of events, coming up with ideas for blog posts, and contributing to the brainstorming of possible future events and media publications.

Not for you? Then check out our Education and Awareness Sub-Committee. It is perfect for those of you interested in the activism and awareness-raising done by our organisation. If you have a passion for the issues affecting the LGBTQQI community and their allies, and would like to help our Awareness and Education Officer in the creation, organisation and running of campaigns and workshops, then this is your chance. Successful applicants will be responsible for assisting with logistics for seminars and workshops, coming up with ideas for campaigns, both actual and virtual, and contributing to the brainstorming of unique ways to raise awareness.

You might be asking yourself, “What’s in it for me?” Well apart from the warm fuzzy feeling you get from knowing that you are part of something that helps so many people, you will be given a signed recommendation letter detailing what your role involved, which you can add to spice up your CV.

If you are interested in being more involved with We Are and forming part of one of the Sub-Committees then send an email to vp@weare.org.mt Please include your contact details as well as which Sub-Committee you would like to contribute to, along with a short description of your strengths and what you believe you can bring to the table. No previous experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn and a drive to be a part of something bigger.

Applications will be accepted until midnight on the 23rd of October 2015 and will then be reviewed by the Executive Board. Successful applicants will be contacted via email by the 1st of November 2015.
Looking forward to receiving your applications,

-The We Are Team

Newsletter #1

Hello everyone!
This is We Are's first Newsletter for the scholastic year of 2015-2016. Freshers' Week is now over, and it's time for a run-down of what happened and what's happening this month, especially if you haven't been able to pay us a visit at our stand.

What happened at Freshers' Week? This year, we had a theme for each day (Media, Family, Health, Sports, Youth), with posters and images set up each day relating to the themes. We also had a question for each theme that we asked people coming by to answer and put up their answers; photos of the questions and replies will be posted on Facebook to encourage people to answer and continue the discussion. There were bookmarks and information booklets for passers-by to take, and anyone who signed up this year got a member pack with our business card, the National Gay Helpline card and a DIY keychain one of our members made. We were happy to see people stop, chat with us and ask questions. We really enjoyed interacting, and we hope this was a positive experience for them as well, while we also look forward to meeting those who could not come by. You can check out our stand at our Freshers' Week photo album

So what's next? We're starting off the year by going to KSU's Campus Fest '15 on 3rd October around 8.30-9pm. This is held on campus (KSU Campus Fest '15 FB link) . If you would like to join us, you may contact us on our Facebook page or this email, or contact Mark (President) on 99627556 later in the day (please say who you are at the end of your msg). Below in numbered form, are our official events including links.
1. Our first official event in this scholastic year is our Welcome Drinks event on Friday 9th October (RSVP on Welcome Drinks FB page). Meeting time and place are provided in the event page, but this is a good opportunity for one to meet both old and new members in a relaxed setting, socialise before university stress kicks in.

2. We will also be having a meeting with members on 21st October, 1-2pm in KSU Common Room. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please let us know. Anyone who is a non-member and wishes to join can fill in the membership form and pay the membership donation during the meeting.

3. We are screening a film for Halloween on Wednesday 28th October so check the event page for more info (RSVP on Halloween Film Night FB page). Dress up is optional but encouraged as we are having a Best Costume Competition with a prize. Members enter for free while anyone who is a non-member and wishes to join will have to donate 2 euros at the door, or if they would like, they can become members by filling in our membership form and paying the membership donation.

We will be planning events for November soon, so we'd appreciate any suggestions from you.
One of our aims is to provide a safe space for LGBTQQI youth and students, and the people who support them, to be themselves. This includes a secret group on facebook, only people currently in the group can see other members and posts, and to be in the group you must be added by an admin. If you would like to be added to our secret group on please send a message to any of our exec members on facebook.
For those whose membership has expired, or would like to know if it's expired and want to renew, please contact us.
We wish you all best of luck in your endeavours and we hope to see you soon,
We Are
